Artention Films partners with one of world’s top film schools – Chapman University Dodge College of Film and Media Arts to set up joint film education programs in Shenzhen, with the long-term vision to build a full-fledged film school.

Chapman University Dodge College of Film and Media Arts

Chapman University is a private institution that was founded in 1861. Chapman University is a private school in the in the middle of Orange County, Calif., with a residential campus just 30 miles from Los Angeles.  It is ranked as a leading private university both by U.S. News and World Report and by Princeton Review lists. Since its founding, Chapman has grown into a highly regarded university that attracts high-achieving undergraduate and graduate students from all over the United States, and more than 60 nations around the world.

Recognized as one of the top ten film schools in the world and ranked #7 by The Hollywood Reporter among American film schools, Chapman University Dodge College of Film and Media Arts offers an array of undergraduate and graduate degrees that address the rapidly changing entertainment business.



Mutual visits and collaboration discussions between Artention and Chapman University

Based on common interest in nurturing film talents in the fast growing Chinese film market, Artention and Chapman started mutual visits and discussions of collaborations in 2015.

In March 2016, after multiple visits, a delegation consisting of Scott Chapman (member of the Chapman family and a board member of Chapman University), Bob Bassett (dean of Dodge College), Michael Kowalski (vice dean of Dodge College), Janell Shearer (Media Arts Division Chair), Tina Graves (Director of Administrative Operations) and Kareem Marashi (Technical Services Manager) visited Artention Shenzhen Studio. The two sides held a number of detailed discussions about partnering to build a film school in Shenzhen, and met with the Shenzhen Municipal and Longgang District government heads to discuss setting up Chapman University Shenzhen Campus at Artention Studio, leveraging Shenzhen and Longgangs unique Specialized College international higher education policy. Both sides agree to start offering educational programs at Artention Studio, and continue to push for setting up Chapman University Shenzhen Campus. The visit and the collaboration between Artention and Dodge College was widely covered by local and international media.




2016 Chapman University Summer Film Academy, China

July to August 2016, Artention and Chapman University Dodge College launched their first joint Chapman (China) Summer Film Academy at Artention Studio in Shenzhen. The program was a great success. This was the first time a top American film school has set up summer program in China, and marked the first step towards the two parties’ joint effort to build Chapman University’s China campus in Shenzhen. The faculties from Chapman University, Chinese students who joined the program and their parents all spoke highly of the infrastructure and planning that Artention offered. The Summer Camp was also widely reported by media both in China and abroad.
